图 B 显示了脂肪酸示踪剂（13C-棕榈酸）的氧化，该示踪剂已注入啮齿动物饲料中 10 天，选择性地将体内脂质用 13C 富集。测量休息、慢跑运动（15 米/分钟）和恢复期间的 CO2 和 δ13C 表明小鼠的总脂肪氧化量在运动的第一个分钟内增加，但在稳态运动期间降低至休息水平。研究人员还可以通过喂食注入 13C-1-L-亮氨酸的啮齿动物饲料来选择性地富集体内蛋白质，从而在实时观察内源性蛋白质氧化的定量评估。
